Objective Racing driver Jackson Walls has unveiled the Indigenous artwork inspired design that will be on the #11 car for this weekend at Hidden Valley – part of the Supercars Indigenous Round.

At the heart of the striking design is an original artwork piece by Walgalu/Wiradjuri artist Aidan Hartshorn whose ancestral lands reside in the high country of the Kosciuszko National Park and foothills of the Snowy Mountains – a connection seen in both his pieces and the Supercar livery.

In Aidan Hartshorn’s pieces, diamond shield forms float off their backdrop and are covered in patterns depicting turbulent waters with refraction, prisms and contrasting tones used predominantly – imagery reflecting the artist’s passion for his ancestral lands, the Snowy Mountains and the Snowy Hydro dams, a talking point in the local Aboriginal community.

A replica print of the original artwork was displayed along with the car for its unveiling on track at the Hidden Valley circuit to showcase the close link between artist, artwork, story and representation as a part of Supercars Indigenous Round.

“The car looks fantastic! This is my first time revealing an Indigenous Round livery and you can see there’s a lot of storytelling in it – the way the water is represented throughout the artwork looks great. There’s a lot more to the story than you realise, but once you understand it, it’s really emotive.”

“Huge thanks to Aidan (Hartshorn) and the gallery for giving us permission to use it – I’m proud to have this on my car for the Darwin Triple Crown.”

“There’s always heaps of anticipation before the Indigenous Round, and all the different livery reveals make up a huge part of that. I think it’s an awesome initiative that Supercars lead and it’s great to see every team embrace it.”

“Seeing all the cars on the grid together is going to look really cool and being part of it this year in the Objective Racing Ford Mustang is going to be special. I love this track and hopefully I can get a great result for Aidan and the team this weekend.”

Aidan Hartshorn, Artist:
“Like water in the rivers, our cultural practices have never been static – they adapt, shift and find new ways to continue into the future, while staying connected to our collective pasts.

“Yiramir Mayiny (River People) builds upon my ongoing engagement and relationship with water as both living presence and ancestral archive where it becomes a site of kinship and continuity.”

“This work is an extension of perspectives as a First Nations person operating within the present and informed by the past. I’m thrilled to see my work extend into the world of Supercars through Objective Racing, it’s an exciting opportunity that I hope will be a gateway for new audiences to engage with our culture, practice and artwork through the lens as a Walgalu/Wiradjuri person.”

Andrew Jones, Team Principal, Objective Racing:
“The Darwin round each year is a favourite stop on the Supercars calendar not just for the beautiful winter sunshine, but also for the change in liveries to celebrate the Indigenous Round and the massive effort that all teams put in to make this happen – Objective Racing included.”

“It has been a pleasure collaborating with exciting artist Aidan Hartshorn and adapting his Yiramir Mayiny artwork onto our Ford Mustang for this event, his methods for producing these works are incredibly complex and we are proud to work with someone that is striving to explore new possibilities in the arts sector.”

The Objective Racing car will take to the track at Hidden Valley Raceway for the betr Darwin Triple Crown, with practice starting on Friday, 19 June.
