ARG TCR DRIVERS TO RUN BOTH F3 AND AUDI AT PHILLIP ISLAND

Drivers in the carsales ARG eSport Cup will be put to the test with both the Formula 3 car and the Audi RS 3 LMS to be used for Round 6 of the online series at Phillip Island.

Category administrators had originally earmarked the Dallara F3 as the vehicle of choice for the virtual Island race, but a passing suggestion from three-time Bathurst 1000 champion Garth Tander has prompted the Australian Racing Group to change the format for this Thursday’s event.

The 40-plus grid will conduct a 15 minute qualifying session ahead of a 25 minute race in the Audi RS 3, followed by a 15 minute qualifying and 25 minute F3 race.

Full championship points will be awarded for both races.

Tander, a race winner in the carsales ARG eSport Cup and currently seventh in the points standings, is pleased that his idea has been given the green light. 

“This will be a real test for all of the drivers, even the guys that we are regularly seeing up the front,” Tander said.

“I’ve enjoyed the F3 races, and they will be awesome to drive around Phillip Island, but I reckon that the Audi cars have provided a more entertainment for the fans. This will offer the best of both worlds.

“Having the two different cars on the one night is a real point of difference for the ARG series and I believe it will offer some mixed results and some interesting racing.

“And Phillip Island makes the most sense for this. It’s one of our local tracks so almost everyone in our races will know this track really well. As long as I don’t get taken out like I did last week, I think it will be one of the best nights of racing that we’ve seen so far!”

Round 6 of the carsales ARG eSport Cup at Phillip Island will be broadcast live and free on the TCR Australia and Velocity Magazine Facebook and YouTube channels this Thursday night from 8pm AEST.
