Penrite Racing’s Anton De Pasquale scored his second-career podium after an unstoppable drive in Race 21 at the Bend SuperSprint, while David Reynolds climbed to 7th.

When the lights went out at the start of the 24-lap race, both Anton and David got away well and immediately picked off their rivals.

Anton moved past Mark Winterbottom on the second row for third place, while David made up an impressive three spots to 9th.

There was chaos through the first corners but as the field begun to settle, both Penrite racers held steady.

The leaders pit early, and Anton moved into the lead, with his teammate now just five places behind in 6th.

The #99 was the first to pit for tyres at the end of lap 10 and though he stalled momentarily, there were no spots lost on the re-join.

With green tyres bolted on, Anton set the race-lap record before his teammate prepared for his stop.

With the timing of stops imperative, David ran long and stopped at the end of lap 17.

It was David who profited most from his green tyres, breezing past Jamie Whincup and laying down a 1:49.4042 to take the lap record off his teammate.

David continued to work his way through to 7th before the checkered flag; while Anton powered home and earned himself enough points for 10th in the Championship.

“It was a good recovery; anytime you go forward in a race you’re happy. Anton and I were on very different cars in qualifying and his was much faster so we just plugged in to his set up and we went forward. I wish we had done that for Qualifying because I might have had a better run in Qualifying so my day could have been entirely different if I started with his set up.

All in all, it was a good result for the team; Anton finishing third and the fastest Holden was real progress and good for our team points. Both cars are fast, we got a small win with the lap record, and with a similar set up tomorrow we could both race at the front and both be the fastest Holden’s.”

“The same as when we last got podium, I knew that if we got third off the line, we had a car fast enough for whoever we were racing to hang in there. Our starts have probably been our weakness leading in to this point but we have done a lot of work to get better starts and we delivered.

“It’s credit to the engineering staff and the crew today. We rolled out of the truck and it was a bit of a struggle the first practice, but we worked hard and everything we changed to this point had been positive. We’ve been chipping away and making the car better and better, so that’s got us to the position where we can fight for podium and have a car that you can drive comfortably and drive fast.

“It’s hard to get a podium and there’s been some get away from us, but to be able to steal a couple now is a good feeling. We’ll be working hard tonight and get another good result tomorrow to get a heap of point to keep us up in the Championship.”
