Cub Cadet Racing’s Mark Winterbottom and TRADIE Beer Racing’s David Reynolds showed promising pace as they kicked off the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 weekend, completing two solid practice sessions.

Winterbottom was a consistent presence in the top ten during Practice 1, ultimately securing 13th. In Practice 2, he again showcased strong pace, though traffic on his green tyre run pushed him back to 15th.

For Reynolds, today’s sessions marked the debut of the freshly built T18-003, completed in just five days after the Bathurst 1000. The new car ran smoothly with placements of 19th and 12th, as the team executed a series of setup adjustments in preparation for qualifying and Race 21 on Saturday.

Saturday’s action-packed schedule includes Qualifying at 11:05am, followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 12:35pm, and Race 21 kicking off at 3:15pm AEST.

“I just had a bit of traffic in that one. I was probably seventh, eighth on pace, which we’re probably sitting more around the 10.7 lap time, but yeah, got traffic on the green tyre run.

“Not fast enough, but at the back end of the ten. I’m just looking for front grip to try and sharpen the car up.

“Seventh, eighth and ninth was realistically where we sat, but there’s some fast cars, so quite a bit to do overnight.

“I love coming here, it’s good fun. It’s just a very wild track. After building a new car the boys did a good job to put everything how it should be.

“The first session, the braking migration was a little bit out but they’ve made a big change between the two sessions, and it was much better.

“Our relative performance right at the start of Practice 2 was quite good, I thought, and my car was really good then, but then we made some changes and it didn’t feel the same after that.

“We’ve got to look at why, but if I can get that car I had at the first couple of runs of Practice 2, I’ll be happy.

“All in all, it was a good day. Everyone’s been working really hard, and it’s a very cool track to drive.”
