Fabian Coulthard will drive for Team SYDNEY in the Local Legends backed entry in 2021.

It’s a major coup for the Sydney-based team who has snagged the services of one of Supercars’ most experienced campaigners.

Coulthard is a proven winner, with 13 career race victories, five with Brad Jones Racing between 2012-2015 and eight during his five-year campaign with Dick Johnson Racing.

The 38-year-old has 443 Supercars race starts (15th all-time) and 202 round starts (18th all-time) to his name, along with 16 Bathurst 1000 appearances finishing 3rd in 2017 and 4th in 2020.

He finished 3rd in the Supercars Championship in 2017 and 4th in 2019.

Partnering with three-time Champion Scott McLaughlin, the English-born, Auckland-raised Coulthard played a critical role in helping the Dick Johnson Racing team (as DJR Team Penske) claim three teams’ Championships (2017,2019 and 2020).

“Joining Local Legends Team SYDNEY is an exciting opportunity for myself, I look forward to representing Local Legends, the city of Sydney and playing my part in the development of their Supercar program,” Coulthard said.

“I have a long-standing relationship with the Webb’s, Jonathon and I have competed against one another since 2003 in various campaigns.

“Jonathon, Geoffrey [Slater] and I have a clear direction for the growth of the team and we are committed for the long haul.”

In 2021 Coulthard will drive the Local Legends #19 entry for Bathurst winner Jonathon Webb’s Team Sydney. Alex Davison drove in that entry in 2020.

The #19 entry will be boosted by racing benefactor Tony Quinn, who owns Local Legends beef jerky.

The NZ-based UK expat multi-millionaire backed Tekno with his Darrell Lea confectionery brand when the Webb family-owned team ran Shane van Gisbergen from 2013-2015.

Quinn’s Stix liquorice also supported Will Davison’s and Jonathon Webb’s 2016 Bathurst 1000 victory.

On his support for Coulthard in 2021, Quinn said:

“Fabian and I have worked together in the past winning the inaugural Highlands 101 endurance race, we hope to carry this success with the Local Legends Supercar.

“We’ve got the tools to put on a good show, just need Fab to update his hairstyle.”

Coulthard will make his debut in his new Supercar at the team’s home, Sydney Motorsport Park for official testing on the weekend of February 13-14.
