Australian rising star Oscar Piastri has starred on debut in both the Formula 1 eSeries Virtual Grand Prix and F2 Virtual Feature Race overnight.
Driving for the Renault World DP F1 Team, 19-year-old Piastri finished fifth in the F1 eSports Virtual Azerbaijan Grand Prix around the streets of Baku.
Williams F1 driver George Russell won the 26-lap race from Red Bull Racing’s Alexander Albon, with Mercedes reserve driver Esteban Guitierrez filling the podium.

McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris finished just ahead of Piastri, with Haas F1 reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi and Williams’ Nicholas Latifi following.
Piastri started fifth but had to comeback from being turned around early on, going wheel-to-wheel with Fittipaldi before comfortably driving to the finish.
Earlier, Piastri stormed to victory in the F2 virtual race for Italy’s Prema Racing after claiming pole with a sensational lap more than three-tenths quicker around the fast Baku circuit than his nearest rival.
He dominated the race from start to finish to take the chequered flag by over 10 seconds ahead of German Lirim Zendeli in what the F1 website says was “an astonishing display on his first race in the series.”
Managed by Australian F1 legend Mark Webber, Piastri is a member of the Renault Sport Academy.
