Organisers of the LMP3 Cup Australia have announced its five round calendar for the 2020 season.
Round 1: March 27-29 – Sydney Motorsport Park
Round 2: May 1-3 – Winton Raceway
Round 3: August 21-23 – Phillip Island
Round 4: September 4-6 – Sydney Motorsport Park
Round 5: September 11-13 – Sandown Park Raceway
The calendar gives this exciting new series a range of tracks that will suit these incredible race cars in the first year of Australian competition. Four Rounds will be held as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships, and an additional round will be held at the high-profile Sydney Master Blast event with an evening / night race on the cards at the event.
The calendar has been planned expressly to utilise some of the best tracks in Australia, while accommodating not just Australian entries, but to also allow transit times for international entries in the series already received from Europe and Asia. The calendar has been set avoiding international Le Mans Series date clashes to allow all competitors in the Australian series the freedom to compete in the Asian Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Tony Manson, Category Manager LMP3 Cup Australia
“We’re really looking forward to bringing top-level Sports-Prototype racing back to Australia. LMP3 cars with their Nissan V8s really suit the Australian taste for V8-engined racing and at the same time, with their purpose-built, pure racecar design provide the spectacle of fast but close Sports-Prototype racing that we have missed in Australia for quite some time now.
We have strong interest from Australian teams, have already received entries from Overseas teams and our weekend schedule, providing hour-long, two-driver races fits the ethos of Sports-Prototype racing & gives more drivers the opportunity to be part of the series and potentially carve themselves out a Sports-Prototype career both here in Australia and Overseas
We have information on the wide range of affordable cars available for purchase and also on the details of our series and I urge those interested in finding out more to contact us directly so we can share that information with them.
2020 is an exciting time for LMP3 in Australia with firstly the Asian Le Mans Series running at The Bend in January and then LMP3 Cup Australia kicking off – these cars really are special and not to be missed!”
