RECAP: The opening day of the 2019 Gold Coast 600 was held in stunning, stereotypical Queensland conditions.

The first practice sessions around the Surfers Paradise street circuit are when drivers get their bearings around the concrete-lined track.

Both Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustangs were in the Top 10 all day, with Fabian Coulthard in front of Scott McLaughlin in Practice 1. Alex Prémat and Tony D’Alberto were both in the Top 5 in Practice 2, before McLaughlin and Coulthard put the Mustangs back in the Top 10 in final practice.

Saturday will see the Supercars field compete in Qualifying, a Top 10 Shootout and 300km race.

COULTHARD: “Not a bad start to the weekend. The car is faster than the times suggest, we got a few kerb strikes in that final session so things are looking okay. The guys will tune it up and we’ll have a go tomorrow.

MCLAUGHLIN: “The car is pretty good, we just didn’t get the job done with a few kerb strikes today. Alex was fast in his session, so the signs are good. Looking forward to knocking a couple of mirrors off in quali tomorrow.”

D’ALBERTO: “Nice to be back on the GC. I really like this track, and Car 12 is going good so far. Looking forward to getting on-track in the race tomorrow”

PRÉMAT: “Today was good. The car feels nice, and it was fast so I am happy. I like racing here on the Gold Coast, and I think we have a good chance for the weekend.”
