STEWART CLOSING GAP TO FRONT OF FIELD

HALF PRICE PARTS Velocity Magazine Media Driver Madeline Stewart is happy with the progress she is making on the Supercars Super3 Series, working her way forward to the pointy end of the field.

The fourth and penultimate round for the series this weekend is at the Bend Motorsport Park once again on the Supercars undercard.

“We had a pretty good day today. I have continued to close the gap to the front of the field. The long lap here makes the field more spread out and with 18 corners to get right it’s quite challenging.” Madeline told Velocity Magazine.

“I was really happy with being 10th in practice 1 and 9th in practice 2, not just because I was in the top 10  but I because I am feeling more and more comfortable in the car and I feel that The Bend is a particularly difficult track to come to grips with.”

Qualifying around the 4.95 circuit requires precision for the full lap to qualify forward, Madeline struggled a little bit and ended up 12th on the grid with a changed strategy.

“I was a bit disappointed to only qualify 12th though. I went faster than in practice but just not enough faster. With the track is so long, we don’t have as many laps in qualifying as other tracks. We decided to change the strategy from what we normally do to go straight out on new tyres rather to put them on half way through.  The car was really good early on in the session but I just didn’t have the track position to do a good lap time.”

The Super3 have two races today Saturday.

“My theoretical lap time, made up of my best sectors, was much quicker than the time that I actually did. With such a long track and such long sectors it is really hard to put a whole lap together especially when you don’t have many laps to recover if you lose one due to traffic or a mistake.”

“I think our strategy was right, I pretty much matched my fastest  on my last lap, I just needed to get more from the car early on. I think If we can be consistent today and keep doing good laps, we can move forward in the racing.”

The races get underway at 8.55am and Midday and can be viewed on Fox Sports 506 or Kayo.
