Andre Heimgartner will watch today’s two carsales TCR Australia Series races from the sidelines after an engine failure in his Subaru WRX in yesterday’s first race.
The Kiwi was running inside the top 10 prior to a sudden failure that caused his car to grind to a fault.
After investigation by the Kelly Racing team, and without a spare in its current allocation of parts, the team has been forced to withdraw Heimgartner’s entry.
Team manager Matt House said that it was beyond the team’s powers to get the Subaru back on track.
“Andre said that there was a sudden knock and he lost all power,” said House.
“We had a look at the engine, and it’s never a great sign when there is metal in the engine’s oil.
“We’ll have a proper look at the engine when we get back to Melbourne, but without a spare, we have no choice but to pack it into the truck early.”
Garth Tander won yesterday’s first race, ahead of series leader Will Brown and rising star Aaron Cameron. CLICK HERE for the race report and results.
Today will feature two more TCR Australia Series races, with Race 2 kicking off at 12:45pm Adelaide time, and the third race at 1:50pm.
