Tim Brook commenced his quest for back to back Toyota 86 Racing Series titles in style by steering his McLaren Real Estate Macarthur Toyota 86 to the round win at the WD40 Phillip Island SuperSprint.
Brook qualified in pole position before taking the Race 1 win on Saturday. While Sunday’s two races saw the Oran Park based driver claim two second places, earning almost maximum points at Phillip Island to lead the highly competitive one make series.
He also enjoyed a weekend long battle with 2007 Supercars champion and three-time Bathurst 1000 winner Garth Tander, who made a cameo appearance in the series. The two drivers almost inseparable on track throughout the three race, with Brook holding the upper hand on the results sheet across all three races.
“What a fantastic way to commence our title defence,” said Brook.
“After the season launch, we felt pretty comfortable with car heading into the opening round. We knew we needed to qualify near the front, but to claim pole position and win the opening race was the perfect way to start the season.”
“Then to back that up with two more podiums and leave Phillip Island with the championship lead is incredible.”
Helped by his loyal crew, David, Jason, Mark and Joe, Brook showed once again that his McLaren Real Estate Macarthur backed entry would be the benchmark of the 40 car field.
“I can’t thank these guys enough for all of their help.” Brook continued.
“We rolled out with a competitive car again and proved why we’ve got the number one on the door.”
“It was great to have Bec and Soph at the track, and have the family support this weekend. Also big thanks to all of my partners for continued support to allow me to continue to do what I love.”
Brook leads the standings with 280pts points to his name after one round.
