A double class podium highlighted Stephen Grove’s weekend at the Australian Grand Prix, Round 2 of Porsche Payce Carrera Cup Australia.
The Grove Motorsport team recovered from a crash during Thursday’s practice session, fighting back over the weekend to secure two podium results at Albert Park.
Grove finished fourth in Pro-Am in the opening race on Thursday evening in picturesque conditions as the Carrera Cup field competed in twilight conditions.
After being fifth in Pro-Am in Race 2, Grove managed to pick up a handful of positions in Race 3 on Saturday to take the chequered flag third in Pro-Am.
He then went one better on Sunday to clinch second in class and sensationally stand on the Formula 1 podium.
The strong end to the weekend elevates Grove to second in the Pro-Am standings, 39 points behind class leader Anthony Gilbertson.
“Great result, to finish second over the weekend is fantastic based on where we were on Thursday,” said Stephen Grove.
“The crash on Thursday, I was pushing pretty hard, the tyres weren’t up to temperature and we just found the wall.
“The boys did an awesome job to get it out for Qualifying, but that session we weren’t where we wanted to be.
“To progress on from there was good. Race 1 was okay, Race 2 we kept working on it all weekend.
“Race 3 was solid and Race 4, from a consistency perspective, is where I need to be.
“It’s a real credit to the team to fight back and achieve what we did this weekend – we just never gave up and in the end, it gave us a great result.”
Grove’s next outing in Porsche Payce Carrera Cup Australia will be Phillip Island from April 12-14.
