After a couple of seasons in the Rallycross Australia series, young gun Arron Windus is returning to the forest, committing to a full season of the CAMS Hino Geelong Victorian Rally Championship (VRC) for 2019.

Having done all his 4WD competition in Subaru’s, this season sees a change to Mitsubishi, having acquired a Lancer Evolution X R4 that is to be run by Justin Dowel’s Activ Rallysport team. Calling the notes will be Daniel Brkic who shared success with Windus in their sole appearance in a rally in 2018, when they dominated the Western Victorian Crane Trucks Valley Stages.

Windus, who made headlines four years ago when he became the youngest ever winner of a VRC event at age 19 has one goal in mind this season – “we’re chasing the championship, but we’re realistic that the competition will be fierce, plus we’ll need to find some confidence in blind events” he said. While reigning state champions Ben and Cathy Hayes are taking a break this year, past Victorian Rally Champions Warren Lee and Glen Raymond will be in the mix as will Arron’s father Darren.

Following a productive shakedown on the weekend in the Victorian High Country, Windus commented that he was very impressed with the torque delivery and balance in the Lancer, inspiring his confidence to unlock performance in the car quickly.

The Border Oils and Batteries Mitta Mountain Rally on March 2 will mark the opening round of the 2019 CAMS Hino Geelong Victorian Rally Championship as well as the MTA NSW Rally Championship and East Coast Classic Rally Series.
