Brenton Grove scored a season best result in his home round for the Dunlop Super2 Series while sporting a unique retro livery at the Rabble.Club Sandown 500.

As announced in August, Grove adopted a retro scheme on his Holden VF Commodore in support of the ‘Retro Round’ initiative that is popular in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

Grove Motorsport was indeed the only Super2 team to field a retro livery in a nod to the team’s roots with a replica of the Tasman Motorsport car which the Grove Group sponsored in the 2007 Oran Park event.

The weekend started out strong, with a pair of productive 40 minute practice sessions on Friday which saw Grove claim the seventh fastest lap time in Practice 1.

Results wise, Saturday’s qualifying session was slightly tougher, but Grove was able to make up for it with a fantastic performance during Race 1.

In tricky, damp conditions, the 21-year old steered his way from 20th on the grid to 13th at the flag, his best finish this season.

A difficult end to the weekend on Sunday, however, meant that the team couldn’t quite show the potential they had in the final race, but Grove is confident that they have taken some big steps forward.

“The whole weekend was quite mixed in terms of results and on track conditions,” explained Grove.

“As soon as we started to make some progress, the weather changed and we were back to square one.

“It was a lot easier being able to get stuck into the weekend straight away, not having to spend the first session learning the track. I think that definitely showed in the results for the first session.”

The team now gears up for a massive weekend in support of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from October 4-7.

Both Stephen Grove (Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia) and Brenton Grove (Dunlop Super2 Series) will be action in what will be the first double header weekend for the team since the Adelaide 500 in March.

Meanwhile, Grove Jr will pair up with Le Mans champ Earl Bamber for the endurance spec Bathurst 250 Super2 race at Mount Panorama.
