Stephen Grove is set for Round 6 of Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia at The Bend Motorsport Park in support of the OTR SuperSprint (August 24-26). The state-of-the-art facility will host Carrera Cup Australia for the first time since opening earlier in the year.
It will mark the second event for the one-make series on South Australian soil after the season opener at the Adelaide 500.
The 4.95km circuit is set to offer a fresh challenge for drivers, with the layout comprising of a number of undulating corners and 18 turns in total.
Grove heads into the weekend feeling confident after recapturing the TAG Heuer Pro-Am class lead last time out at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“We have some good momentum as a team at the moment and I’m hoping we can carry it forward into this weekend,” said Grove.
“It’s a clean slate for all the teams and drivers and so it will be interesting to see who can get their head around the circuit fastest. “I think pretty much everyone has been here so far testing or in other series, so the competition will be tough again. “Having learned a few new circuits recently. I’m hoping I can adapt quicker than the others.”
Track experience has been limited, with Grove one of only a handful of drivers to turn laps in a support category test day at The Bend last week
Grove explained that Friday’s two 30 minute practice sessions will arguably be the most important of the year. “The test was really a process of familiarising ourselves with the circuit and the layout,” added Grove. “It’s a tricky track so I’m glad we were able to go there and test before the weekend.
“It doesn’t really matter how the test went at the end of the day because the track will evolve so much by the time we get on there for qualifying next weekend.”
Track action kicks off with practice on Friday, ahead of Qualifying on Saturday morning.
Carrera Cup Australia then gear up for a gruelling 20-lap race later in the day, ahead of another two encounters on Sunday, both eight laps in duration.
