MICHAEL MASI JOINS SRO MOTORSPORTS AUSTRALIA

SRO Motorsports Australia is pleased to announce experienced motorsport official Michael Masi as its new Head of Sporting.

Masi will begin with SRO Motorsports Australia effective immediately to undergo an official handover before stepping into the role full time for the 2027 season. During the transitional process, Masi will be in attendance at the final two Shannons SpeedSeries rounds of the year, starting with this weekend’s visit to Sydney Motorsport Park.

As part of the role, Masi will be in charge of the rules and regulations within both categories, which includes ensuring processes and procedures are followed under the standard of SRO Global, managing the Stewards, Race Director and other race officials, as well as implementing international best practices as per other SRO series.

Masi joins SRO Motorsports Australia with a wealth of experience at the top level of the sport both here in Australia and abroad, with his most notable position being that of Formula 1 Race Director for three seasons between 2019 and 2021.

Prior to that, Masi had navigated his way through the ranks in Australian motorsport, starting off as a volunteer in his teens before securing high-profile roles at Motorsport Australia (then known as the Confederation of Australian Motorsport), which included roles as CEO of Rally Australia and Deputy Race Director at Supercars.

One of his most recent roles in the sport included serving as the independent chairman of the Supercars Commission from 2022 until 2025. He will continue in his roles as Deputy Chair of Karting Australia and as a Board Member of the South Australian Motor Sport Board

Masi will take over from the outgoing Abi Hay, who returns to Europe to focus on her current positions as Series Manager of Intercontinental GT Challenge, SRO Manufacturer Relations Manager and the SRO GT Academy Manager.

Hay held the role of Head of Business Development and Sporting at SRO Motorsports Australia since the start of 2024, where she played a key role in building the organisation’s foundations to align with the global standards of SRO Motorsports Group.

Masi begins his tenure as SRO Motorsports Australia Head of Sporting at this weekend’s GT Festival Sydney Motorsport Park on 18-20 September.

“GT racing in Australia has been on a steady rise, and I’m confident there is plenty of opportunity to continue building on the strong foundations that have already been established.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone involved and hopefully implementing some positive initiatives that can further develop the sport and deliver benefits for competitors, teams and all of our stakeholders.”
