Round Eleven, Race 29 – SMP, Eastern Creek, 20th Nov 2021 – Targeting different parts of the race, the two sides of the garage adopted a split tyre strategy. Alistair opted to start David on the SuperSoft compound, seeking gains early on. The NED Whisky entry commenced the race on hards, with a view to maximise any safety car opportunities and allow strategic flexibility.

A hampered start pushed Heimgartner to the back of the grid, but a strong drive enabled him to gain four spots on his qualifying position. Reynolds SuperSoft strategy looked to be paying off early on, but a lack of pace meant he couldn’t get the most out of the tyre, and he slipped down the grid.

The team was ultimately happy with the cars set up, with only minor adjustments required ahead of tomorrow’s race. Positively, both Mustangs had exceptionally good pace in the rain, but this came too late to capitalise.

“It was a very tough race, but I had some good fun” said Heimgartner.

“The cars had solid pace towards the end, as they always do in the rain. It was a job to be sliding around and getting involved in some good battles”.

“We now focus on tomorrow and maximising our opportunities with the inclement weather”.

“That was long; I had forgotten just how much hard work 250km is. I feel beaten, battered and bruised” said Reynolds.

“Our hard tyre pace was average, which kind of ruined our day, but on the super-soft, we were flying, which gives a good indication of what to do tomorrow”.
