Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds has been elevated to third place at Pukekohe Park Raceway today, after a post-race investigation hit Jamie Whincup with a 15-second penalty. Teammate Anton De Pasquale meanwhile took 15th.

Having raced from seventh on the grid, David made a move on Scott McLaughlin on the second lap to quickly move up the order.

Anton, who was just behind him off the start, got away well and passed Nick Percat for eighth before the opening corner.

By lap 4, the Penrite Holden’s were amongst the fighting pack, but Anton made the early call, taking the first stop of the race and pitting for tyres and fuel.

David battled with lapped traffic until a Safety Car was called on lap 13 when Mark Winterbottom’s car became stranded on the road. Majority of the field scrambled for pit lane; David also amongst them.

When the lights went green on the restart Fabian Coulthard and Anton lead the way, though it was David who was effectively in front and in third, while 8thon the road.

Anton’s advantage wouldn’t last. Armed with fresher tyres, Whincup and Andre Heimgartner moved through and dropped the #99 Holden back to P4.

Alive to the threat though, Anton managed his defence well over the following laps, maintaining his place until the second round of stops on lap 35.

Though, with a long stop needed to make it home on fuel, it would eventually become 15th.

David continued his rise up the order and thanks to the field settling, the Penrite driver found himself in fifth on lap 59.

Will Davison’s 15-second time penalty handed David fourth before the checkered flag, while he regained the last spot on the podium when Whincup was stripped of second post-race.

David Reynolds – Started: 7th, Finished: 3rd

“Qualifying was really tough today, we changed the setup overnight trying to find a bit more speed. We probably made it slightly worse though and couldn’t get the best result in qualifying. I was on a really good lap which should have put me 5th but unfortunately lost a tenth at Turn 6 and lost a little bit.

“I got a good start in the race, my first couple laps I was able to make a few good moves. I thought my car was going to be a bit better but towards the end I had hurt the tyres too much.

“It was a good result in the end though; we were fifth on road, but ended up third, so that’s a great day. Everything went well today so we just need to find a little more car speed and I think we can do it again tomorrow.”

Anton De Pasquale – Started: 9th, Finished: 15th

“I had a pretty good first stint, I made a spot or two at the start and we pitted early. The Safety Car came out shortly after though which meant everyone else was able to get a bit more fuel in then we did and that hurt us in the long run.

“We probably didn’t have the fastest car today either, so we weren’t able to stay where we were, but we will look at and work out what we need to do to move forward tomorrow.

“We qualified reasonably well, so if we can tune our race car up and are inside the ten tomorrow and make the Shootout, I think we can make something of it.”
