Two race wins on the streets of Townsville have seen McLaren Real Estate Macarthur driver Tim Brook extend his advantage at the top of the Toyota 86 Racing Series standings.

The 2018 champion, Brook qualified on the front row in Queensland before standing on the podium in all three of the weekend’s races.

A second place finish behind friend and rival Dylan Thomas in the opening race was quickly followed by victory in Race 2.

The weekend was then capped off in perfect style on Sunday morning with another race win.

It was Brook’s fifth win in his last six starts on the Reid Park circuit, having dominated the event this time last year.

“I’m stoked with the weekend,” beamed Brook, who has nicknamed his car ‘Betty’.

“To come away with two wins and a second place to Dylan was just fantastic.

“I’ve really got to thank the guys preparing the car, David, Jason, Mark, and Joe. Betty was a rocket ship this weekend and that’s because of the hard work those guys put in.

“It got off to a good start on Friday with practice, and then we were luckily able to convert that into a good qualifying result.

“Starting at the front in this series, because it’s so close, is huge, so that really set us up for the weekend.

“We had a great battle with Dylan in the opening race and then luckily we were able to sneak by him in Race 2 and hold on from there.”

A similar performance this year saw Brook walk away with 290 of the 300 points on offer, making for a total of 570 points from the opening two weekends of the year.

Though it leaves him with a 108 point advantage in the title race, the experienced Brook is taking nothing for granted.

“Thanks to the guys we’ve had a really strong start to the year, it’s better than we could have ever hoped for.

“But it’s not over by a long way, we’ve still got plenty of racing to go and we know that anything can happen.

“A couple of years ago I got caught up in someone else’s incident at Bathurst and that put us out for the season, so we need to keep focused and keep plugging away.

“We’ve definitely got a car capable of doing the job, it’s just a case of doing all the little things right, having a little bit of luck, and staying out of trouble.

“If we can do that and keep scoring some good results we’ll be in a good spot, but it’s not over until that chequered flag in Newcastle.”

Brook and the McLaren Real Estate Macarthur backed crew will now worked to prepare Betty for the third round of the Toyota 86 Racing Series at the revered Mount Panorama in October (10-13).

Racing again in support of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, Brook will tackle the iconic circuit in front a packed crowd of passionate motorsport fans.
