Dylan O’Keeffe has rated his 2019 Bathurst 12 Hour campaign as a “valuable learning experience”, despite his MARC I Focus retiring from the race after 136 laps due to ongoing gearbox problems.

O’Keeffe started the race in the Everyday Financial Solutions entry and was running comfortably as the best of the MARC I cars before pitting after 30 laps.

The team’s other drivers Jason Busk and Geoff Taunton, elevated the car to 26th outright, despite a tyre puncture at one stage, and O’Keeffe returned to the circuit for another 30-lap stint, in which he maintained the car’s position.

While his day ended prematurely, O’Keeffe said it was a positive weekend overall.

“For my driver development, it was good to learn and adapt to a different type of car, and definitely useful for my Super2 Series debut,” O’Keeffe said.

“While the gearbox problems prevented us from getting a result this year, I still drove 60 laps around the Mountain while the car was performing well.

“Jason and Geoff were fantastic – a massive thanks to them and the Liajen Motorsport team for the opportunity.

“Now I can’t wait to test my Super2 Series car before Adelaide in a few weeks!”
