FERRARI CHALLENGED AT ALBERT PARK
Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli – Asia Pacific have had their first visit to the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, 26 International and 1 Australian driverS took to the Albert Park track for what one could describe as an “interesting” race meeting.
Three practice sessions and one qualifying would lead into just two 10 lap races for the weekend, both of which unfortunately would see safety car interventions.
James Weiland from the USA qualified his Ferrari 488 GT with a time of 1:59.114 but wasn’t able to turn this into a win in either of the two races, he placed second in race one and fourth in the second race. Battling out for the top spots were the two Indonesian drivers of Renaldi Hutasoit and Rama Danindro with the later taking both race wins and the weekend points.
Race two got off to a very bad start with a major pile up at turn one that saw the majority of the field pulled up with one commentator saying it looked like a “Ferrari Carpark” once it was cleared the race ran time certain with just 8 of the scheduled 10 laps run. Over the two races the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli – Asia Pacific ran just 9 actual racing laps from a possible 20!
