Kody Garland has dominated the Aussie Racing Cars round on the Gold Coast, setting himself up for a shot at the title in the final round of the season next month.
The Motor Traders’ Association of New South Wales driver started the weekend on the front foot as he qualified second, less than a tenth of a second from pole. Race 1 set the tone, with Garland aggressive in his pursuit of the race lead to control the race until a late race safety car. Despite a one lap dash to the end, Garland held on to record the victory and set the new race lap record in the process.
Race 2 was played out in much similar fashion, with Garland controlling the race from the front in an extremely entertaining battle for the race lead. After breaking free of the slipstream with just a couple of laps to go, Garland sprinted home to greet the chequered flag.

The reverse grid race, which would turn out to be the final race of the weekend, saw Garland starting down in 12th place. An aggressive opening lap elevated Garland into the top 10 before he methodically worked his way past his competitors to take the lead of the race with two laps to go, completing a remarkable comeback victory and securing a sweep of the weekend.
The round’s planned final race was cancelled due to a timing error on the circuit, which prevented the category from running as scheduled.
Round victory brought Garland another point closer to the series lead and now just one point adrift, when accounting for the drop round. It is an extremely familiar position for Garland, who lost out on the 2024 title on race wins countback after finishing the season level on points for the top spot.
The final round of the series takes place from November 27-30 as part of the Adelaide Grand Final, at the Adelaide Parklands Street Circuit.

“The track actually surprised me this year with how gripped up it was, even from practice one given we were the first ones out it was very green initially but after about four laps it cleaned up quite quickly.
“Our car was looser to start the weekend, but we made no setup adjustments as we knew the circuit would keep ramping up and it worked out nicely. I was very confident in the balance so I was able to really attack the kerbs, and that’s where all the time is around the Gold Coast, I just sent it lap after lap.
“It’s unreal, I knew heading into the first race that a win was achievable and once we ticked that off I thought it would be pretty hard to knock us off for the rest of the weekend. The win felt ambitious coming from 12th in the third race, but the first lap set it up for me and fortunately we got the whole race in to work our way forward.
“Adelaide is do or die. We’ve put ourselves in a very similar position to 12 months ago, we know what we need to do, just need to go out and get it done.”
