The Australian Racing Group has confirmed that the National Trans Am Series will have its own 100km feature race at the Bathurst International in November this year.

The thundering all-American muscle cars will compete in three races over the course of the inaugural Mount Panorama event, with the final race to be run over a 100km (16 laps) distance.

All of the races will also be included as a round of the National Trans Am Series, currently led by third-generation star Aaron Seton.

The concept of the longer 100km race harks back to the NASCAR 100 that was run at the famous circuit back in 1996 during an era where the American stock cars were competing locally.

While the Trans Am cars have raced at Bathurst before as part of combined classes, this event will mark the first time that the Trans Am cars have competed in their own race around the 6.213km road course.

A unique perpetual trophy is currently under development to award the winner of the Trans Am 100.

Trans Am racing was pioneered in the USA back in the 1960s and is one of the most enduring forms of motorsport anywhere in the world.

The current evolution of the series, now competing at a national-level in Australia, caters for modern V8-powered, rear-wheel drive muscle cars that feature iconic makes such as Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros and Dodge Challengers.

The Trans Am races will be one part of a huge event at Mount Panorama in November, competing alongside TCR Australia cars, S5000 open wheelers and the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour production car race, confirmed to run on Saturday.

The event will also feature a Holden Heritage Revival class that is set to showcase the variety of The General’s race cars around the circuit that cemented the brand’s legendary status.

The 2020 Bathurst International will be held on November 13-15.

Matt Braid-CEO, Australian Racing Group

“Some circuits around Australia try and promote ‘hero’ events, but no place can do it quite like Mount Panorama,” said Braid.

“The Trans Am 100 at Bathurst will be the jewel in the crown of local and international Trans Am competition and will be a big feature of the inaugural Bathurst International.

“ARG understands that the current situation around the world will prohibit elements of any event, which we feel will make the inaugural Trans Am 100 a great opportunity for local entrants to maximise their time around the best race track in the country.

“Having these iconic American muscle car brands really speaks to the ‘International’ component of the event, and we can’t wait to see these big cars tackle the mountain.”
