Rally NSW and the Motor Traders’ Association of NSW are pleased to announce a 5-round MTA NSW Rally Championship for the remainder of 2020.
Commencing with the AMH Automotive Rally of the Bay at Batemans Bay on 4 July, the MTA Championship will be a class act of competitive events throughout the length and breadth of the State. Each round will be jointly contested by East Coast Classic Rally Series crews.
The Rally of the Bay will be a pace noted event for both MTA NSWRC and ECCRS competitors, featuring a broad mix of classic Bay stages including the popular River Road and legendary Runnyford Road.
The second round is the long-standing Caves Classic on 5 September, based in the Central West town of Oberon, and featuring some brand-new stages in pine plantations to the west of town. Jenolan and Hampton State Forests will be getting a rest this time around. This event could well be the harbinger of bigger things on the horizon and is set to attract a very strong field.
Round three will be the ever reliable Netier National Capital Rally to be run in the ACT on 26-27 September – a pace noted event shared with the Australian Rally Championship.
The “Natcap” will feature a couple of short prologue-type stages late on Saturday afternoon following reconnaissance, with the rally proper held on the Sunday.
The Light Car Club of Canberra has a massive Round 4 in store for 31 October: the Kosciuszko Automotive Monaro Stages, based in Bombala in the Southern Alps, with up to 190km of competitive stages over some amazing roads that haven’t been subjected to a rally vehicle in many a year. This rally will be reminiscent of the 1980s, with medium to long stages and minimal liaison distances. Do not miss this event!
The fifth and deciding round will be held on 28 November in the North Coast region of NSW, with further details to be announced shortly.
On top of the MTA NSWRC and ECCRS comes a four-round TechWorkz Clubman Rally Series combined with the Premier Panel Beating Hyundai Rally Series.
Three of these events will be held in conjunction with the MTA NSWRC/ECCRS (Rally of the Bay, Caves Classic and Monaro Stages) together with a stand-alone CRS/HRS event held at Narooma by Brindabella Motor Sports Club. The Horizon Apartments Narooma Forest Rally is one of the most popular Clubman events in the state and a worthy recipient of the Rally NSW “Best Event” award for 2019.
It must be noted that the above events are dependent on approval by the NSW Government for rallying to re-commence – a matter being addressed very capably by Motorsport Australia – and also subject to any requirements or restrictions that may be introduced from time to time to protect community health from the COVID-19 virus.
