David Reynolds is expecting a return to form in his Penrite Racing Holden as he heads into the back end of the 2019 season.
While Reynolds is still searching for his first win of the season, he has racked up four podiums and one pole position and is confident heading into the next round in New Zealand.
“I have won races there before, been on the podium and had pole, so I’ve gone pretty good in the past,” he said.
“The track is good fun, it’s high-speed, rough, flows good and it’s challenging.
“Hopefully the changes that Supercars have provided our cars with bridge the gap and we are able to tune the car and come on strong this weekend.”
Pukekohe also marks the return of the Top Ten Shootout on Sunday and Reynolds has the current best active streak of any driver.
The #9 driver has made the last 18 in a row, a streak that started at Darwin in 2017.
“It’s a really good thing to have consistently made the Shootout for that long,” he said.
“It’s hard to do as a driver and it’s not always up to you, it takes the whole team to produce a fast car and myself to drive it a bit harder.”
While his record doesn’t guarantee anything this weekend, Reynolds is convinced they have the ingredients.
“Anton was really fast at Tailem Bend and we are going to a similar track, so hopefully what we have learnt from him we can put in my car and go forward this weekend.”
The last part of the year has traditionally been the team’s strongest circuits, Reynolds scoring either a provisional pole or pole position at all of the last five events last year.
The #9 driver also scored a win in the last race at Newcastle, and he’s eager to translate 2018’s impressive run into some solid results again this year.
The ITM Auckland SuperSprint kicks off this Friday with first practice starting at 12:05pm local time (2.00pm AEST).
