ALEX PERONI FIA F3 AT THE HUNGARORING

Alex Peroni was in action at the Hungaroring in Hungary for the FIA Formula 3 Championships, once again on the F1 undercard.  Alex has sent us through his results from the weekend.

Practice – Friday, August 2

Result: 9th. Alex got off to a good start with a top 10 placing in the 30-strong FIA F3 Championship field. This predominantly tight and twisty circuit, where driver skill counts more than on ‘power’ ones, and the forecast of likely rain – ‘the great equaliser’ – during the weekend gave him hope of adding to his pointscore.

Qualifying – Saturday morning, August 3

Result 14th. Unfortunately Alex was held up on his fastest lap by slower traffic, which is even more problematic on tight circuits than on fast ones with overtaking opportunities.

Race 1 – Saturday afternoon, August 3

Result: 26th. After climbing from 14th to 11th place in the early laps, Alex fell to 13th mid-race as his car’s Pirelli tyres experienced severe degradation. Late in the race he lost more places after bumping wheels with German driver David Beckmann and sliding wide. He recovered several positions in the remaining laps to cross the Finish line 13th, but race officials subsequently penalised him 30 seconds – rather harsh, considering other drivers have received no or significantly lesser penalties for similar incidents that adversely affected his results in other races – for the Beckmann incident.

Race 2 – Sunday, August 4

Result: 16th. From 26th starting position, Alex charged through the field to run as high as 15th before tyre degradation again slowed his car by several seconds a lap compared to the frontrunners. He held on to finish 16th in what was a disappointing and frustrating round. However he remains the only one of the Campos Team’s three FIA F3 Championship drivers to have scored points in the eight-round series for aspiring Formula 1 drivers.
